Old Way of Building College Websites Is Dead
Bespoke development costs too much, takes too long and is unnecessary in most cases. Further more, custom code is difficult to support, maintain or extend functionality. On the other hand, the cookie-cutter templates provided by central campus are too generic and restrictive for most campus units.
What we need is a robust and flexible framework built by and for college web and communications professionals.
Best practices and design patterns for things like navigation and accessibility already exist. Examples of great design are all around us. Why continue recreating the wheel with each new web project?
